Lab Audits & Inspections

In accordance with guidelines set forth by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and a directive from the chancellor, we audit and inspect laboratories and equipment regularly. Our audits and inspections are listed here for your reference.

  • Biological Safety Laboratory Audit

    When

    Annually

    Proctored by

    Biosafety

    About

Once a year, all laboratories that use biological materials will be subject to a safety audit as a continuation of IBC authorization. Laboratory PIs will receive a email notification one month in advance. Use this inspection checklist to ensure your laboratory will pass inspection.

  • Chemical Safety & Laboratory Safety

    When

    Annually

    Proctored by

    Environmental Compliance & Industrial Hygiene

    About

Once a year, all laboratories that use chemicals will be subject to a safety audit. A representative from EH&S will contact the laboratory proctor or Principal Investigator in advance to coordinate this inspection.

  • Fume Hoods

    When

    Annually

    Proctored by

    Environmental Compliance & Industrial Hygiene

    About

Fume hood air velocity will be measured and the EH&S hood certification card will be noted certifying when it has been inspected. If an issue arises during the inspection, Facilities Management will be automatically notified of this. This audit is handled automatically by EH&S staff, no action is required for laboratory personnel.

  • Radiation Safety Laboratory Audit

    When

    Annually

    Proctored by

    Radiation Safety

    About

Radiation Safety laboratory audits are performed once a year in all laboratories with any type of radiation license. The audits are performed by Radiation Safety staff and are compliance driven—they are an opportunity to check laboratories for compliance before the campus is inspected by CDPHE. They are also an opportunity to “check-in” with laboratories and answer any questions. They are unannounced, but a pre-audit questionnaire is usually sent to laboratories a month or two before the audit. Any items noted in the audit need to be responded to in writing within 30 days.

  • Respirator Fit Test

    When

Once per year, or on acquisition of a new respirator, or on change of facial hair

    Proctored by

    Environmental Compliance & Industrial Hygiene

    About

If you are under a respiratory protection program you are required to have the fit of your respirator checked and approved by EH&S. Once per year you will bring your respirator to EH&S where we will test its fit using Quantifit. At the time of this inspection you must remove all facial hair.
